Rail · A Nexefy course

Track Lookout: practise the warning before the train arrives.

We built Track Lookout to show rail operators what’s possible. Lookouts protect track workers from approaching trains, and here they rehearse the job in any weather and against any hazard, from clear daylight to dust storms and lightning, with no live trains and no track access needed.

The moment that mattered

You can’t schedule a near miss.

Lookout training has depended on live rail access, good weather and available locomotives, which limits consistency, scale and safety. It’s hard to expose learners to rare but critical situations, or to deliver the same quality of training across a distributed workforce. Track work remains one of the most hazardous environments in rail, and human error is still a leading factor.

What we built

Real rail conditions, in the training room.

Track Lookout is our own course: a fully immersive, scenario-based programme for high-risk lookout roles that rail operators can try for themselves, and adopt or adapt for their own network.

It’s built the same way as our client work. Learners move from theory to guided practice to unprompted performance, responding to hazards, radioing Train Control and making fast decisions under pressure, until they’re ready to do it in the field.

How it works

Realistic rail environments

Localised terrain, ambient audio and adjustable weather, from clear daylight to low visibility and lightning.

Four learning modes

Theory, Guided, Practice and Assessment, from demonstration to fully unprompted performance.

Dynamic hazards

Worker collapse, wildlife, loud machinery and poor visibility, without real-world danger.

Radio protocols

Live communication with Train Control, including clearance procedures, hazard reporting and traffic coordination.

Runs on what you have

Standalone headsets, tethered systems, or desktop for facilitator-led sessions.

Assessment-ready

Timed assessments and LMS integration show who is ready, and which scenarios to repeat.

What changed

Why it works.

Lookouts need to make fast, confident decisions under pressure, and that takes practice no classroom can give. If you’d like to see Track Lookout in a headset, or shaped around your own network and procedures, talk to us.

  • No reliance on live trains, track access or good weather
  • More throughput, with several learners training at once
  • Confidence built through repeatable, high-pressure scenarios
  • Rare, high-impact events that can’t be recreated safely in real life
  • Consistent quality and compliance at every site
