Timeline: feel the risk, without the risk.

A VR rail safety experience for young Melburnians. Players choose a character, make decisions on a network that feels real, and see what happens when a shortcut across the tracks goes wrong.

The moment that mattered

A shortcut across the tracks.

Young people acting dangerously around trains is one of the hardest safety messages to land. A billboard gets a glance. Metro wanted something that would resonate with teenagers by putting them in the moment, safely.

What we built

The personal pull of a video game, for a safety message.

Players pick a character, move through stations and platforms, and make the calls young people make every day. The scenarios come from Metro’s frontline staff, who shared what they’ve seen play out on the network.

Metro’s Community Education team takes Timeline to stations, schools, youth centres and shopping centres, with a portable booth built for a two-minute play.

How it works

Choose a character

Six characters young people recognise, so the story feels like theirs.

Real scenarios

Shaped by frontline staff, from what they see on the network.

Built to travel

A portable VR booth for community events and schools.

“We wanted to bring the personalised nature of video games into an important safety message that will really resonate with teenagers.”
