Queensland · Department of Transport and Main Roads

One road safety system, from learner to returning driver.

It began with PrepL. Together with TMR and Compono, we grew it into a connected suite for learner drivers, their supervisors, learner riders and drivers returning from suspension, each built for the moment that person is facing.

The moment that mattered

Road safety is more than one test.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads wanted driver education that was accessible, engaging and made a real difference to how people drive. A single learner test couldn’t do that alone. The people around a learner, and the years after the learner licence, matter just as much.

What we built

Four programmes, one system.

Each programme is tailored to a specific need, and together they build safer, more knowledgeable road users across the state. Real-world scenarios, decision-making challenges and interactive experiences run through all of them, so the system grows with the community it serves.

The suite

PrepL

The learner driver course and test that replaced the written test, with controlled progression and a valid, reliable Learner Test.

Supervisor Course

Prepares parents and supervisors with the road rules, their legal responsibilities and practical coaching strategies, so learner and supervisor work together.

Hazard Perception Tests

Video-based tests for light vehicles and motorcycles that build early hazard recognition, anticipation and quick decisions.

Drink Driver Reform

A pathway for drivers returning from licence suspension, now delivered as Plan.Drive.Survive. Foundations.

What changed

A new benchmark, adopted beyond Queensland.

The suite has transformed road safety education for learners, supervisors and motorcyclists in Queensland, and other states have adopted the approach, setting a new benchmark for digital driver education nationally.

  • Earlier hazard recognition, and more confidence before the practical test
  • A safer transition from learner to provisional licence
  • A consistent, accessible reform pathway, with less pressure on face-to-face delivery
